Welcome to
Wilgro!
Wilgro Nurseries is a large high quality supplier of
ornamental bedding, patio and perennial plants both as plugs and as
finished plants. Established in 1989 as a diversification of a
successful farming and fresh produce business we have gone from
strength to strength. We have grown rapidly in an active and
profitable partnership with customers large and small, in every part
of the industry. We are now part of the Sakata Seed Corporation, one
of the leading world breeders of flower and vegetable seeds. We are
looking forward to bringing yet more innovative to market from
Sakata and other leading breeders and to association with Samuel
Yates their seed distribution company in the UK.
Our experienced, innovative and friendly team has built up this
strongly independent nursery as a supplier to leading garden
centres, local authorities and landscapers, retailers, mail order
companies and nurseries both wholesale and retail.
Wilgro invests heavily, continually improving quality and service
from the point of seeding or sticking through to the finished
product as seen at the point of sale. This has meant new facilities
and systems throughout the main 12 acre site all designed to ensure
customers receive top quality plants at the right time, condition
and price.
For garden centres and nurseries Wilgro can apply our
combined experience as a specialist plug producer and long term
bedding plant supplier with the knowlege of their own garden centre
trained staff. This combination is rare and means, for example, that
beyond the essentials of quality, reliability and service we
understand the need for a wide range of well labelled varieties and
a flow of consecutive crops. In particular we have worked with
customers to develop new products such as their unique retail plug
packs, available through garden centres and Mr Fothergills seeds
mail order catalogue.
For local authorities we continually review varietal developents and
undertake joint trials. This process ensures a steady flow of fresh
ideas for public open spaces, many of which are off catalogue.
For example, following various assignments a full bedding range
has been successfully grown in peat free coir for major council
schemes over several years.
Service is also enhanced by the ready availability of plants from
the company's wholesale cash and carries. At our very convenient
location near Thirsk we have both a plug cash and carry for
nurseries and a bedding plant cash and carry for local shops which
can also provide plants for urgent patching of damaged displays. Our
plants can also be collected at Gabler Nurseries in Fife, Scotland.
As already indicated, our young company is both responsive
and dynamic. We are experienced in working to critical schedules and
in developing off catalogue products to provide what customers
demand. This has brought success with mail order and ditribution
companies as much as with the direct service of garden centres,
retailers and nurseries.
